Catherine Short de Arce, soprano
 
 

Catherine has an advantage over the average ingénue.  Besides the operatic and concert roles, she has expanded her repertoire to the rich experiences of wife and mother.  When she takes the stage, her portrayals are palpable.   And she does all this while living her life with ease, grace and elegance. 

Catherine enjoys an international singing career having performed in such places as Madrid, Salzburg, Austria; Paris; Helsinki, Finland; Prague; São Paulo, Brazil; Bogotá, Colombia; Santiago, Chile; La Paz and Santa Cruz, Bolivia; as well as along the east coast of the US and has soloed with the Orquesta Sinfónica National de Bolivia, Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Santa Cruz de la Sierra, the Sunshine Cathedral Orchestra, OperaLancaster, as well as other independent orchestras. 

Upcoming in 2011/12, Catherine will be singing Carmina Burana with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Medellín, Colombia, concerts with orchestras in Bucarmanga, Mozart’s Requiem in Bogotá, Colombia, as well as concerts the U.S.

She holds a Master of Music from University of Miami and a Bachelor of Music from University of Delaware.  Catherine, a frequent traveler, recently was a resident  in Helsinki, Finland, and maintains homes in the United States and Bolivia.

Sept. 16, 2011--A delegation of professors and alumni from the University of Delaware Department of Music traveled to Bogota, Colombia, in August to perform a concert and to establish connections for future collaborations and programs.

Sept. 27, 2011-Students at the university and Colombia's Pontificia Universidad Javeriana may soon be making sweet music together.

University professors and alumni utilized an $18,000 grant received over the summer and recently traveled to Colombia to solidify plans for a new music department study abroad program.

Alumna Catherine Short de Arce worked to secure the grant, and said it helped pay travel costs for the officials who finalized study abroad details.
